Who am I?
Welcome to #bigbirdrunner. I'm Kerstine. I set up my wixsite so I could keep a track of what I get up to (which is quite a lot) I'm a 46 (very nearly 47) year old woman with a passion for exercise and hopefully inspiring and supporting others to be more active. I'm vegan and have a campervan that myself and my very patient partner Steve love to travel off in to do Park Runs in as many venues as we can. I run my own physiotherapy company called 'KHPhysiotherapy' and have a keen interest in running injuries. I've been running for many years but have never run competitively. Over the last 7 years I've been running ultra distances and have taken part in some grueling yet amazing events. I'm a two time finisher of the West Highland Way Race and 2nd place finisher in the stunning Ring of Fire Ultra on Anglesey. In Lockdown I (along with many others) went a bit stir crazy as my business was forced to shut. I decided to run 75kms around the local cricket club at the back of my house to raise money for our local community.
I love running and I've loved the amazing people I've met along the way. I'm inspired by the people who decide to do the C25K, the marathon runners who dedicatedly follow their strict training programme, the fast runners who want to squeeze 5 more seconds off their PBs, by my mum who started running in LD aged 69 and by those quietly going about their lives using running as a way to keep themselves sane. I know runners who have lost limbs, lost loved ones and lost themselves. Their passion for running and life is infectious and that's what I love about the running community.
As a physio, a runner and a woman in her late 40's I think I have a lot to offer and hope to pass on some of my experience from all these elements. I understand the need for runners to run, yet I also understand the need for the body to heel and recover after injury. I understand the importance for women to keep fit as they approach menopause. Its a great mix- physio and runner- and over the years I've pretty much had most of the common running injuries so when I talk, I talk not only from a medical background but also from my own experience. This site is for me to get my thoughts and ideas across and to pass on some of my wisdom to try and help, not just runners but anyone who wants to better . themselves and be a better person.
